Positionality Statement

As a white woman, raised in a hard-working middle-class household, I was fortunate to have everything I needed growing up (not necessarily wanted!). I also benefited and continue to benefit from the privileges that come with the color of my skin. My faith has also been part of my life since childhood and is the foundation to guide my life choices. I have learned, processed, and addressed implicit biases that could be present and commit to this as an ongoing practice. Both of my parents are career music educators. They heavily influenced my choice to be a career arts educator in Dance. I wish for my students a dance experience that will stay in their hearts no matter what profession they end up in, this vision is guided by my parent's approach to their own programs. I utilize this, along with the influence of my husband, also a career music educator, to continue to fuel my desire to be a dance educator.Â
